The department published its Request for Information Regarding the Nondiscriminatory Administration of School Discipline June 8th in the Federal Register.
This document includes a brief history of department actions since the OCR’s 2014 Dear Colleague letter on nondiscriminatory administration of school discipline. It offers highlights from the GAO’s and US Commission on Civil Rights’ most recent analysis of school discipline data from 2017-18 which shows continued disparities. And it offers questions to help guide comments around ongoing school discipline challenges from all levels of learning communities.
